What do you like most about CrossFit?
Hard to say, actually, what I like most. Between the variety of workouts/movements and the community, this is not an easy question. I guess, I’ll settle on the coaches at Livewire. They are personable, authentic, and dedicated to promoting YOU!
What is your favorite/least favorite movement?
Favorite movement would have to be the Turkish Get-Up – not sure why, but they are a full-body calorie burner. Least favorite movement is the Man-Maker – they are demoralizing and I feel like a little girl because I can’t string more than three together.
Do you have an interesting story about how CrossFit has impacted your life?
“Nothing all that exciting, but as I look back at my personal history, I wanted to call myself “”athletic.”” But as I reached 30, 31, and 32, it was increasingly clear that I could no longer use that label for myself. I like to tell people that I enjoyed the winter of 2013-14 too well and reached a high point in my weight. My wife, Karen, had just started Livewire at that time and kept telling me how much I would enjoy it. We have a mutual friend (Lisa Dove) who kept encouraging us both. Anyway, I decided to take the dive and see how deep the rabbit hole goes.
I started attending the “Rise and Grind” class 5 days/week (5:15 am) because it was the only feasible way Karen and I could WOD daily. The commitment was matched by the community and I never looked back. 122 WODs later, I lost 20 lbs, am as fit as I have ever been, and I continue to PR on almost every movement/lift.
The only major downside was having to buy all new pants because I was swimming in my dress pants for school. What a cool problem…
