What’s Your Age? 39
What’s your occupation? Store owner/Manager
When did you start CrossFit? I started CrossFit at the end of July 2014. So, I’ve been at it for just over 6 months now. I started out as a 3 times a week person, but now I’m there 5 days a week, sometimes 6 if I can swing it.
What do you like most about CrossFit?
My favorite part about CrossFit is the challenge it presents. Sometimes it’s a challenge just to finish the workout. Some days it’s a challenge to lift more than I did last time. Some times it’s a challenge to do it faster or better or to get more reps. And let’s face it, some days it’s a challenge to beat one of the times on the board. Hey, we’re all a little bit competitive – even those of us that appear so sweet and innocent.
What is your favorite/least favorite movement?
My favorite movement is the deadlift. Probably because I still can’t believe that I can lift that much and it makes me feel like a badass. Any lifting with a barbell makes me feel like a badass really.
Except Overhead Squats. Those are my least favorite – yes, even more so than the dreaded Burpee.
Do you have an interesting story about how CrossFit has impacted your life?
3 years ago, I was fat. No, really fat. And I spent 6 months sweating my butt off in my living room and counting calories. And 45 pounds later, I was a much healthier, happier person. Since then, I’ve done lots of home workouts through Beachbody (think Insanity, P90X – not that I did either of those – that’s just what Beachbody is known for). After a while, I felt like I was in a rut. I would cherry pick workouts and make excuses for not doing ones I didn’t like. I decided that at this point in my life, I shouldn’t have to do workouts I hated. Then Chey convinced me to try CrossFit. One day was all it took. I was hooked. It’s competely changed the way I view working out. I’m no longer sweating in my living room alone. Instead, I have this whole new group of wonderful people that encourage me even when I’m sucking it up and I’m the last one standing. I never dread a WOD – and it definitely never gets boring! Every day is a new, fantastic opportunity for me to prove to myself that I can do anything I set my mind to. And the victories (when they come) are oh, so sweet. Who knew you could get so excited to string together a couple double unders? I never got that psyched at home in my living room.
